GRAPHIC DESIGN AND ON-SITE MANAGER – MANHATTAN, NEW YORK
 
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Develop pathways to deliver organizational and project objectives defined by the Client. Collaborate with other designers and design functions (e.g., Industrial design, Brand Identity, 2D Packaging, Digital, In-­Store Merchandising, Corporate Branding and Workplace Design, design research and design strategy) to develop, execute and co­create design concepts, campaigns, product launches, support materials and special projects, such as workshops, executive presentations and design led initiatives. Extend brand equities by creating and developing consistent equity tools, brand architectures, design language assets and global standards. Provide daily oversight of project-based talent and scalable resources at a major corporate design studio and ensure contractual and business responsibilities are met. Foster a culture of collaboration, responsiveness and impressive work.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead at a group level within the organization, and provide strategy for projects, and manage small work teams
  • Be responsible to execute and deliver multiple global projects with external partners and critical deadlines
  • Partner with cross-­functional roles to develop, interpret and clarify content to implement project briefs
  • Manage, develop and mentor a team of designers while also managing budgets, resources and deliverables
  • Cultivate relationships and oversee results of external vendors
  • Leverage internal and external expertise to translate insights into innovative solutions to meet project goals
  • Oversee the work of contract personnel at the client site and in remote locations. Manage the daily activities and bookings of freelancers and project-based talent
  • Conduct and facilitate interviews and act as liaison to introduce new talent. Monitor performance goals that support the overall objectives of the Client.  Develop methods to engage those working in remote locations.
  • Create accurate invoicing, tracking, timekeeping and reporting, assisting with business management
  • Work in the most proactive, creative and professional manner to provide the highest level of service
  • Work closely with TeamPeople management to develop best approach for servicing Client and its customer base
  • Other duties as assigned

 
REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong track record developing others and is an integral member of a cross­functional team who develops strategic concepts and executes priority design initiatives to deliver people-centered design, enabling the business and brands to evolve from a single­point design perspective to holistic 360-degree design solutions
  • As the creative force responsible for the development of innovative design projects through strategic platforms, lead the creative vision for multiple brands within a distinct area of the client’s portfolio
  • Candidate must be a proactive leader and a team player
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to supervise individuals and small teams. Proven results’ managing multi-­disciplinary design teams is required
  • A strong sense of urgency in solving customer requests to ensure timely resolution is critical
  • Results orientation with a flexible attitude to deliver seamless and timely services to customers
  • Ability to think conceptually across multiple platforms including digital, merchandising, social media and emerging forms of brand communication
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of design strategy methods and practices
  • Financial budgeting skills and competency is required. Knowledge of current design and office software, including cross platform (MAC and PC) application and document management
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Candidate must be willing to undergo criminal background check & drug screen

 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required with a major in design is preferred
  • 8+ years of design-related experience is required
  • 5+ years of direct supervisory experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience guiding business partners through the design process, and delivering design vision for brand identity, packaging design and typography/information design
  • Management experience to influence and achieve excellence required. Broad knowledge of design and cultural trends to develop transformational concepts and solutions with business and research teams essential
  • Consumer Package Goods industry experience preferred. Broad understanding of environmentally responsible design and packaging
  • Ability to leverage working knowledge of design thinking in a tactical business context. Industry recognition via design related speaking engagements or design related association / publication awards recognition
